Moroboshi Ataru, der größte Pechvogel aller Zeiten, wird von Invasoren ausgewählt, die Erde zu vertreten. Verliert er, so wird der Planet erobert. Ataru liegt herzlich wenig am Schicksal des Planeten und hat noch weniger Interesse daran, sein Leben aufs Spiel zu setzen. Seine Meinung ändert sich schlagartig, als er herausfindet, was er tun soll. Er muss die gutaussehende Tochter des Invasoren berühren, um die Erde zu retten. Seiner verdorbenen Persönlichkeit wegen, hätte er dies wohl auch ohne Aufforderung getan. Am letzten Tag vor Ablauf der gesetzten Frist motiviert Shinobu, Atarus Freundin, ihn zusätzlich mit einem Eheversprechen für den Fall, dass er die Erde retten sollte. Nachdem er es wirklich schafft und sich lauthals über seine bevorstehende Hochzeitsnacht freut, kommt es zum Missverständnis zwischen ihm und Lum.
