Dass er sich trotz seines jungen Alters jedem Gegner stellt, beeindruckt Griffith, den Anführer einer Söldnergruppe mit dem Namen „Die Falken“. Als sich die Wege der Beiden wenig später erneut kreuzen, nimmt Griffiths den tapferen Söldner Guts in seine Gruppe auf und die beiden stellen sich fortan Seite an Seite gegen Ihre Feinde. Bei den Falken spürt Guts zum ersten Mal in seinem Leben so etwas wie Kameradschaft und Zusammenhalt, aber nicht alle Mitglieder der Söldnertruppe sind ihm gegenüber wohlgesinnt.
